The AI gave an unexpected answer

If the assistant returns a number that looks wrong, or says it can't answer, work through these checks.

1. Check how it got the answer

Start by looking at what the assistant actually did.

  • If the answer includes a SQL Query section, open it and read the query. Check the table, the filters, and the date range.
  • Ask it directly: "Which tables and columns did you use, and how did you calculate this?"

Most wrong answers come from the wrong table, a missing filter, or a different definition of a term.

2. It doesn't know a term

If you ask about "churn" and the assistant can't find it, or picks the wrong column, it doesn't have enough context about your data. You can add that context in several places:

  • Write descriptions for the relevant tables and columns in the Data Catalog.
  • Define the entities and relationships in the semantic layer.
  • Add standing guidance, such as how your company uses certain terms, in your agent instructions.

Also check that the column isn't excluded from AI analysis. In the Data Catalog, each column has an Include this column in AI analysis setting.

3. The calculation is wrong

If "net revenue" comes out too high, read the query. The assistant may have left out refunds or used a different date column.

For numbers your team relies on, don't leave the calculation to each question. Define the number as a metric. The assistant uses your metric definitions when they match a question, so everyone gets the same result.

4. You don't have access to the data

If you see "You don't have access to this data. Ask a workspace admin if you need it.", your data permissions don't include that source or table. If you see "You have not been granted access to any data yet", you don't have access to any data source in this workspace.

The assistant can only use data you're allowed to see. Ask a workspace admin to grant access. See Access control.

5. Your AI credits ran out

If the message box shows Monthly token limit reached. and you can't type, the workspace has used its AI credits for this month. Someone who manages billing for the workspace can buy more with Add credits, or you can wait for the monthly allowance to renew. See Billing.

If none of this helps, contact support and include the question you asked.
