Browsing the library

The Metrics page in the sidebar lists the metrics in your workspace as cards, grouped by category.

Reading a metric card

Each card shows:

  • The metric's name and description. When the app is in Arabic and the metric has an Arabic name and description, those appear instead.
  • The latest value, formatted with the metric's unit.
  • For a metric with a reporting period, the change against the same span of the previous period, as a percentage.
  • What the value covers: As of today for a latest-value metric, This week, This month, This quarter, or This year for a metric with a reporting period, or All time.
  • The business object the metric is defined on, when it comes from the semantic layer. Hover over it to see where the definition lives.
  • A trend line built from the metric's stored values.

A Draft badge means the metric has no working definition, so Qubit cannot compute it. Rebuild history and Add to dashboard are unavailable for draft metrics.

Finding a metric

  • Type in Search metrics to filter by name or description.
  • Choose All or a category to narrow the list. The number next to each category is how many metrics it holds.
  • Use the two layout buttons beside the search box to switch between category tabs and a category list on the side. On a phone, categories always appear as tabs.

Metrics without a category are grouped under Other.

Managing categories

Click the Manage categories button (the folder icon beside the search box) to:

  • Rename a category.
  • Change its icon.
  • Move it up or down to change the order.
  • Delete it. Its metrics are kept and become uncategorized.
  • Add a category: type a name under New category and click Add.

Click Done when you finish. Which category a metric belongs to is part of its definition.

Metric actions

Open the menu on a card (the three dots) for:

  • Compute now: calculates the current value straight away.
  • Rebuild history: recalculates the metric's full trend in the background.
  • Add to dashboard: adds the metric to a dashboard. See Using metrics.
  • Edit: opens the definition.
  • Delete: removes the metric after you confirm.

Clicking a card also opens its definition. A metric defined in the semantic layer opens the Semantic Layer page. Any other metric opens the Edit metric dialog. See Metric definitions.

Compute now, Rebuild history, saving edits, deleting, and managing categories need the Owner or Admin role.

Deleting a metric

Deleting a metric is permanent. Qubit has no archive for metrics. Dashboard cards that were linked to the metric stay on their dashboards but no longer follow a definition.

Before you delete a metric, open the Used by tab in the semantic layer to see which dashboards and scheduled tasks read it. See Viewing the data model.
