What scheduled tasks are

A scheduled task is a set of steps that Qubit runs for you: it collects data, processes it, and does something with the result. Open Tasks in the sidebar to see them on the Scheduled Tasks page, and click New Scheduled Task to create one.

What a scheduled task is made of

You build a scheduled task on a canvas. Each box on the canvas is a step, and the lines between steps set the order they run in.

  • Trigger: decides when the scheduled task runs. It can run when you start it, on a schedule, or when another system calls its webhook URL.
  • Data steps: collect data from web pages, REST APIs, RSS feeds, a web research agent, or a metric in your workspace.
  • Processing and flow steps: filter and reshape the data, branch on a condition, repeat steps for each item, or wait.
  • Actions: save the result as a dataset, create an insight, email an alert, or send the data to another app's webhook.

For example, a scheduled task can read a revenue metric every morning, check whether it fell by more than 5% from its previous value, and email your team only when it did.

Ways to create a scheduled task

  • By hand in the builder: click New Scheduled Task and drag steps onto the canvas. See Building a scheduled task.
  • With the Assistant in the builder: describe the scheduled task in the Assistant panel next to the canvas, and it adds and connects the steps.
  • From an Assistant chat: ask the Assistant to create a scheduled task. It drafts the scheduled task and shows a card with a View Task button that opens it in the builder. See Creating a scheduled task.

A new scheduled task starts as a draft. A schedule or a webhook call starts it only after you activate it. See Setting a schedule.
