Connecting your data

A connection gives Qubit read access to one of your data sources. Once connected, its tables appear in the Data Catalog, and the Assistant, dashboards, and reports can use them.

Available sources

The New Data Source page groups sources into the categories below. Each source with a guide in this section is linked.

Sources marked as coming soon are listed in Planned integrations. For spreadsheets and documents on your computer, see Uploading files.

Creating a connection

  1. Open Data Catalog from the sidebar and click Add Data.
  2. Choose Connect a database. The New Data Source page opens.
  3. Pick a category or use Search sources..., then click the source.
  4. Enter a Connection Name. Names must be unique within the workspace.
  5. Fill in the fields for that source. Each guide lists them.
  6. Choose a Sync Schedule and click Create.

How sources sign in

Sources connect in one of two ways:

  • Sign in with the provider: Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok Ads, Snapchat Ads, Google Analytics 4, BigQuery, Google Sheets, Salla, and Amazon Seller show a Connect button. It opens the provider's sign-in page in a new browser tab. After you approve access, the tab closes and you choose the account to sync. Qubit never sees your password. If your browser blocks the new tab, allow pop-ups for Qubit and try again.
  • Credentials: the other sources ask for a host and user, an API key, or a token. Secret fields are masked; click the eye icon in a field to check what you pasted.

Sync Mode and Direct Mode

Most connections copy data into Qubit's warehouse and refresh it on the schedule you choose. This is Sync Mode.

PostgreSQL, Supabase, MySQL, Redshift, and SAP HANA also offer Direct Mode under Connection Mode. In Direct Mode, Qubit queries your database live and copies nothing. Direct-mode connections have no sync schedule.

These five sources can also be reached through an SSH bastion host. Turn on Connect via SSH tunnel and enter the SSH host, SSH port, SSH username, SSH private key (PEM), and, if the key has one, its passphrase. An SSH tunnel always uses Direct Mode. You choose the connection mode and the SSH tunnel when you create the connection; you cannot change them later.

Sync Schedule

For synced connections, choose how often Qubit refreshes the data:

  • Manual: only when you choose Sync now in the Data Catalog.
  • Hourly: every hour, on the hour.
  • Daily: every day at a time you pick. This is the default.
  • Weekly: on the days and at the time you pick.
  • Custom (Cron): a cron expression for advanced schedules.

Times use the timezone in your account settings. You can change the schedule later with Edit.

What happens when you click Create

For PostgreSQL, Supabase, MySQL, Redshift, SAP HANA, and NetSuite, Qubit tests the connection before saving it. If the test fails, the form shows the error next to the field to fix.

For other sources, Qubit checks that the required fields are filled in, saves the connection, and confirms access during the first sync. After saving, you can run Test connection from the connection's menu in the Data Catalog.

Qubit then starts the first sync and returns you to the Data Catalog, where the new connection appears. Its tables show up when the first sync completes.

Network access and permissions

  • A database must accept connections from Qubit's servers on its port. If it only accepts connections from a private network, use an SSH tunnel (PostgreSQL, Supabase, MySQL, Redshift, and SAP HANA).
  • If your firewall only accepts known IP addresses, contact Qubit support to get the addresses to allow.
  • Connect with a dedicated read-only user or key where the source supports it. Qubit only reads from your sources.

Need another source?

At the end of the source list, the Need another connection? card opens an email to [email protected] so you can request a source that is not listed.
