Context-aware assistant

When you send a message, the assistant knows which page you're on and which item you have open. This works on dashboards, reports, scheduled tasks, metrics, the semantic model, the Data Catalog, and insights. The assistant can read the saved version of that item, and it reads it before making changes. This means you can say "this dashboard" or "this task" without naming it.

The example requests in the empty panel also change to match the page.

On a dashboard

Example requests: Summarize this dashboard, Explain the biggest changes, Rearrange the charts.

You can ask it to:

  • Summarize what the dashboard's charts show.
  • Explain how its numbers changed over time.
  • Rename the dashboard, change its description, or rename a chart.
  • Move charts, for example "Move net revenue to the top."

If a dashboard is open when you ask for changes, the assistant edits that dashboard. It only creates a separate dashboard when you ask for a new one. To change a chart's type, data, or filters, use Edit Dashboard.

On a chart

Click Ask about this chart on any chart. The assistant opens with a request to help you understand that chart. Add your own question, such as "Why did this drop in March?", before you send it.

On a scheduled task

On the Scheduled Tasks page, the examples include Set up a weekly summary and Check a metric regularly.

When a task is open in the builder, the examples change to Explain the steps, Check for issues, and Adjust a step.

The builder also adds a builder chat to the assistant panel. Switch to it with the button in the panel header, or on a phone, tap Assistant above the canvas. Describe the task you want, and the assistant generates the steps and places them on the canvas. Review them and click Save.

The assistant can edit a task only while it isn't active. If the task is active, it asks you to pause it first.

In the semantic model

When you open the Semantic model from the Data Catalog, the examples include Explain this model, Build a model from my data, Define a metric, and Connect related tables.

The assistant reads your existing model and your real tables and columns before it suggests changes. It checks each change before applying it and doesn't remove existing definitions.

Changing topic

If you move to an unrelated question, click New conversation in the panel header. A fresh conversation keeps earlier answers from affecting the new one.
